1923 born in Lyon, France

1943 participating at the Résistance and hostilities of the Maquis (guerrillas)

1945 he started his studies of engineer at the Ecole centrale de Lyon, which he finished after three years

1952 he gave up his profession and attended to photography. He settled down in Paris, where he met Cartier-Bresson and Robert Capa, who persuade Riboud to join Magnum. The first publication on LIFE-Cover was his photo of the painter on the Eiffeltower

1955 he visits for two years India and China

1959 Vice President of Magnum until 1973

1960-74 reportages worldwide inter alia war of Algeria and Black Africa, North and South Vietnam

1975/76 President of Magnum

1980-98 he visits Tibet, Kambodscha, Central Asia, China after the opening, Angkor-temples.

 

With the photographies by Marc Riboud the show ‚50 years of  photography’ celebrates the amazing variety of people, as well the resemblances – the capability to discover their equalities in their differences and to make them visible.
